Big-D is a wonderful Golden Retriever boy who passed away a year ago on September 29, 2012. We were walking in an open field, on an overcast day, early in the morning, which we had done many times. He was struck by heat-stroke and was rushed to the vet’s office but it was too late. He was 2 weeks shy of his 5th birthday. I had his favorite ham in the refrigerator for his birthday party…
Big-D was a happy boy all his life. He was so kind and gentle to all creatures. He befriended everyone, it didn’t matter if it was a human, a dog, a cat, a squirrel, bird, just anything. He even tried to play with a coyote one time. Big-D opened my eyes to the beautiful world of animals. He would run between 2 dogs to break up a fight not even thinking he might get hurt. He taught me what unconditional love is and also made me realize that I can never be as unselfish as a dog. His smiling face was my sanctuary after a hard day at work. Big-D and his brother made me understand how important animal rescue is and that we must keep fighting until all animals are safe, loved and protected!
The pain of losing Big-D is something I’ve never experienced in my life. I miss him so terribly; the heart breaking pain makes me cry every day. But I know the kindest Big-D wants me to turn this tragedy into something productive. I have rescued 2 Golden Retriever girls in his honor; a 4-year old from a money-hungry breeder and a six-year old from a puppy mill… I know my D is looking after us, smiling from Heaven and telling me, “Mom, I’m happy you saved these girls”…
Rest In Peace, my baby Big-D…You will forever be my best teacher, best friend and best companion. I totally believe in Heaven and that, one day, I will be with my beloved Big-D and with all the other wonderful animals/humans that I have lost, forever…
