The decision to foster rescued dogs was in part to help us heal from the loss of our own two canine kids whom crossed the Rainbow Bridge fairly recently and within nine months of each other. Kelly, our chocolate Lab, was with us for over 15 years, and Sierra, a Saint Bernard rescued from a shelter in Northern California, blessed our home for six years before losing her battle with cancer. These girls left a big hole in our home and in our hearts when they left.
Our first Saint foster, Oliver, helped fill a huge void that first Christmas without the girls and we were very grateful for all the unconditional love he bestowed upon us while waiting for his furever home. We didn't know it at the beginning, but realized along the way that we too were being rescued, and as a result found that we were ready again to bring a canine companion back into our home. We will be forever thankful for that gift.
We had tried volunteering for other rescues, but it wasn't until we met Pam Henry and the rest of the special people at Sunny Saints that we knew we had found our fostering family. Truly we have never met so many people within a single organization who are so wonderful, supportive and kind to one another (and their furry friends). And Pam, as the leader of this special pack, has showed unwavering love and strength of character as she navigates the daily challenges and opportunities that Sunny Saints faces with each new rescue. We feel truly blessed to be a part of this amazing organization and to be helping these beautiful gentle giants.
