Cooper (adoption pending)
Cooper is a 5 year-old male and weighs 135 lbs. He recently had TPLO surgery. His legs are all fixed up and he’s ready to play! Now that he’s healed and feeling good, he never stops wagging his tail. Like most Saint Bernards, he plays with his ball for 10 minutes and then sleeps for hours, but he still LOVES long walks every day. He walks great on a leash and will make it easy for you! Cooper has perfect indoor manners and is completely house broken. He will respect boundaries but loves nothing more than cuddling on the carpet or the couch if you’ll let him. He especially loves to flop onto his back and have his belly rubbed. He knows all of the basic commands and loves to show off his handshake. Cooper seems to get along with all dogs and people, and his previous owner said he likes cats.
Cooper has environmental allergies and needs to take a daily medication to avoid hot spots, ear infections, and flare ups with his paws. With a daily allergy pill, he is perfectly fine. Preventative care is important since Cooper has some difficulty with vet visits. He has made A LOT of progress through the course of his surgeries and check ups, since he has gotten to know his vet team and learned to trust them, but he normally gets scared and will likely need to be sedated for most vet visits. He also does not do well with a brush. He seems to think it’s a toy and will bark or try to mouth at it anytime he is brushed. Luckily he only blows his coat once a year and doesn’t shed too much otherwise.
We’d love to see Cooper in a house where someone is home with him most of the time. He is fine when left alone, but he gets sad and sometimes whimpers. He is extremely affectionate and LOVES people. He does not like being left outside and will hurry back to be let in after he does his business. He very much wants to be inside with his family. He also loves long car rides and will immediately jump into the vehicle without any coaxing. Lastly, Cooper sometimes growls when he’s excited, and he has a very big bark. It can be intimidating at first, but it’s very cute and goofy once you’re used to it.
