Sparky (aka Gordon) (adoption pending)
Note: Sparky has recently been placed in a forever home and this adoption will become final soon.
Sparky (also known as Gordon) is a 2 1/2-year-old gorgeous pure-bred Saint Bernard that was an owner surrender. He is completely house trained, does not chew, and has had no accidents. He walks on a leash like a perfect gentleman and he really wants to please. He knows how to sit and the more praise he gets the bigger the smile in his eyes. He is working on his manners as a jogging partner, as he still likes to grab your elbow. He loves a shower and will even bring his own towel.
He has adapted well to living in foster care with other dogs, both large and small. He takes direction well from a very snappy Chihuahua but overpowers the Pomeranian at times who is much more passive. He plays rough with dogs close to his size and tries to step over the little ones most of the time. He is learning about toys. He likes tug of war and will let you win, especially if he feels letting go may tip you over. He likes to carry around a broken basketball. He free-feeds, which has helped some food aggression issues. Most of the time he is good but occasionally he feels he needs all the food.
He sleeps on a futon or an extra-large doggie bed. He will get on his human’s bed if allowed, or he may just sneak up too. He loves to snuggle. He will wake you in the mornings with his jumbo paws and heavy breathing.
He is a wet mouth and drools A LOT! He’s a big guy and plays rough and is still learning about personal space, so would not be a good fit for anyone with frailties or young children. He would be great as an only dog since there will be no room on the couch while he cuddles with you.
He has been neutered and had entropion surgery. He even suffered a bout of bloat while in foster care but was saved! His stomach is now tacked to help prevent bloat in the future.
